For me cooking is something that makes me feel enjoy and I find fun to learn about. Since I was a kid I’ve been dreaming to wear that cool white tidy and neat chef jacket, work in a big kitchen, experiencing various of taste and creating something unexceptional. So I start to learn how to cook basically from my mom. She’s the one who encourages me to cook and teach me from basic. And when the times is come for me to go to college, I choose Binus University Hotel Management, major in Culinary Art. I’m glad knowing I make right decision. Why? Because Hotel Management Binus University has a good program, great lecturers, and many echance to have working experiences in real kitchen or hospitality industry. I have an opportunities to do my internship at best hotels in Bali which is Ayana Bali and Rimba Jimbaran by Ayana, and also in The Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta

After finish my internship and back to colleges, in 7th semestre I decided to have part-time job at Koultoura Coffee as a cook till now. First i feel a little bit afraid that i can’t manage my time wisely between work and school. But when I start to try arrange my schedule I found there’s no such a big deal. I still can manages my time with good at school. Get good score, and finish my final thesis also getting my S.ST Degree. Here in Koultoura coffee, I can learn many things again about how to presenting a good food for coffee shop, how to operate kitchen flows, and they provide me as a student by give me chance to pick my schedule so it doesn’t bother my class schedule at colleges. So for you who wants to work but feel afraid that it will bother you one day. Don’t be! Because when you say you can do this, you will be able to do it. It’s all on our mindset. For me all I do when I decided something, I do it with passion and positive thinking. I start with great mind and positive attitude and I end it with best results that I never expect it will be that big, also I pray.

Working in coffee shop kitchen is different from big hotel or restaurant. Not easy but not also to difficult. Team works also important here and we must have good communication especially when busy times. We also do the brainstorming together here to make something new and unexpected menu that can blew our customer minds. We always explore to know what the hypest things right now so we can always make some inovation here.

So, here’s my advice for you who love to cook and feel you have passion in Kitchen. Never stop learning, have positive attitude, and never give up. Kitchen life is tough and it’s not as good as we’ve seen on tv. Many people now I’ve seen only like what they see and already feels like hey this is my passion, but when they start to feel it and get into real kitchen they give up. So make sure when you decided something. Chef work almost for 24/7 and when others enjoy their holiday we work. Sounds bad right? But if you really love what you do, you doesn’t feel it’s a bad idea but it’s a great things. And that’s my passion. That’s what I feel when I walk into my kitchen and start to cook.
