Fantastic Culinaire Malaysia: Strengthening Gastro Diplomacy through Indonesian Cuisine at BINUS University
BINUS University proudly hosted Fantastic Culinaire Malaysia, a cross-cultural culinary program held at its Kemanggisan and Bekasi campuses as part of an ongoing effort in gastro diplomacy—promoting Indonesian cuisine on the global stage. The event welcomed approximately 50 students from Fantastic Pastry Academy Malaysia, providing them with an immersive, hands-on experience in preparing authentic Indonesian dishes from various regions.
The program introduced participants to the rich diversity of Indonesian gastronomy, featuring signature dishes from Java such as Rawon, Timus, and Misro; from Manado including Chicken Woku, Rica Rodo, Sambal Dabu-dabu, and Klapertart; as well as Balinese specialties like Sate Lilit and Es Daluman Bali. Through this culinary journey, students not only learned cooking techniques but also gained deeper insights into the cultural narratives and local ingredients behind each dish.
The sessions were led by Dr. Aditya Nova Putra, supported by Chef Sarim and Chef Raden Nana, who guided the participants through both theoretical understanding and practical application in the kitchen. THis event also was assisted by the students from Hotel Management Students and Business Hotel Management Students. The event took place at the Kitchen & Pastry Laboratories of BINUS University on August 5, 2025, at the Kemanggisan campus, and continued on August 7, 2025, at the Bekasi campus.
This initiative reflects BINUS University’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and cultural exchange through culinary education. By equipping international students with knowledge of Indonesian cuisine, Fantastic Culinaire Malaysia serves as a meaningful platform to strengthen Indonesia’s presence in global gastronomy and promote its culinary heritage through experiential learning.
